| Why credit reports are not the end all of background checks and tenant screening? |
|
Please remember a credit report is only supposed to be used against an individual in the event the job the individual is applying for is directly related to the entry on the credit report. For no other reason. Simple and short the only unique piece of information on a credit report is the actual drafted credit for collection meaning, loan lenders names, account numbers and the status of these loans. All other data as resolved on a credit report can be obtained through other resources. Questions credit reports do not address or attempt to answer.
In addition, recent arrests are rarely detected by other information services, but ASCWASH.com acquires arrest, traffic and non-traffic records, as soon as the incident is assigned a case number and entry is given in the state record. Clearly, recent criminal activity is far more important to business owners than the dated information that is casually offered by other companies. Credit reports give a skewed image of the candidate by containing only bank-delivered loans and flagged delinquent accounts. These reports FAIL to include information regarding debt and credit activities on such as rent, utilities, phone bills, Internet, cable, etc; Other activity not recorded in credit reports is, banking ethic NSFs, current employment, child support, civil records, criminal activity, driving ethics, etc. Just because it's called a 'Background Check" doesn't mean it is. Unscrupulous people have high-jacked this word and redefined the meaning. The terms 'Background Check', 'Tenant Screening', and 'Pre-Employment Background Check', need to be brought back to their original intent. Being testimony verified to the extent of publicly available knowledge interpreted in relation to testimony given, in the interest of public and economic safety of assets and persons. Simply using instant report providers isn't sufficient in and of itself. ASC investigates a wide array of pertinent information that are not accessed or even pursued by its competitors, including criminal and traffic records that are both more current and are exchanged at a vastly reduced price in comparison to competitors. In this economy credit reports provide a discrimination against individual human beings. The State of Illinois has recognized this and has banned credit reports being used in hiring practices for gaining employment. The Equal Oppurtunity Commission has taken a similar stance in civil litigation filings in 2011 in U.S. Courts. A credit report is only supposed to be used against an individual in the event the job the individual is applying for is directly related to the entry on the credit report. For no other reason. What if your an accountant and your job is handling finances but you lost your life savings in the stock market, got depressed, lost your job and your mortgage is now over due? You apply for a job and get denied based on your credit that deals with finances. Is that credit report a fair and accurate measure of your ability to preform your job? That being said should credit also be allowed to be used to deny individual human beings a roof over their head or shelter, if their income is sufficient and meet rental obligations, and they have no criminal or civil liability? If there is no judgment from a judge of evidence, then there is no proof of civil liability. That makes a credit report an accusation against the individual without due process if used against them. And if a employer or landlord uses these accusations to deny the individual equal employment or equal housing oppurtunities, can they be held liable? Moral obligations are another story, we often confuse the two. The credit reports and data that other agencies use to represent the character of the person under investigation is an incomplete and inadequate dataset for employers and landlords in Washington State. That's why using ASC is so important! |
